Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing Southampton defender Matt Targett this summer, according to TeamTalk.
They report that the Gunners are ready to battle with Liverpool, as well as Leicester, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Fulham for the 23-year-old Englishman.
Arsenal’s current left back options are slightly uninspiring with loyal club servant Nacho Monreal nearing the end of his career and Sead Kolasinac lacking the requisite quality for a side with Champions League ambitions.
Targett struggled to force his way into the Southampton side last season, but may well fall within Arsenal’s price range, while Spotrac claim he earns £35,000 a week currently.
Targett is young, English, has good talent and decent Premier League experience so there’s a lot to like about any potential swoop for Arsenal.
He is only going to get better, especially if he gets more gametime – but perhaps some Gunners fans may prefer a bigger name through the door during a vitally important summer.
It also remains to be seen whether they could outflank Liverpool in the transfer market given that they are the current European champions and can offer a seat at the Champions League table next season as well.
