Arsenal reportedly chasing Olympiacos central defender Pape Abou Cisse

The Gunners have reportedly turned to Cisse in their hunt to bolster their backline.

Arsenal have turned their attention to towering Olympiacos star Pape Abou Cisse in their hunt for a central defender, according to 90Min.

They report that the Gunners scouted Cisse extensively last season and remain keen on his signature even though a deal for William Saliba is also in the offing.

Cisse is 6ft 6in, which may give Arsenal the aerial leader they’ve been searching for and need even more urgently now that the situation with Laurent Koscielny has descended so badly that he isn’t even on their tour.

And at 23, he has plenty of time to improve – but SDNA report that Wolves are also keen on Cisse, who is apparently valued at £10 million.

Cisse looks as if he fits into Arsenal’s age and price profile with plenty of room to improve – if they can beat off the competition from Molineux for his signature.

He may actually be capable of having a similar impact to towering Wolves defender Willy Boly, who took to life in the Premier League like a duck to water and was not outpaced despite his height.

Even if Arsenal did land Saliba, he won’t be at the club next season, so it makes sense that Emery wants someone who can come in and do a job in the here and now.
