Arsenal are willing to abandon plans to shake up their goalkeeper position by signing Freddie Woodman this summer, as they are impressed by Emiliano Martinez’s recent form.
That is according to a report from the Daily Mail, who suggest the England under-21 goalkeeper has been ‘scouted significantly’ by Arsenal this season.
Woodman has been in fine form at Swansea City, where he is on loan from Newcastle United. A World Under-20 World cup winner with England, the 23-year-old Londoner has seemingly become frustrated at his lack of opportunities at Newcastle.

The player’s father Andy Woodman is currently a goalkeeping coach at Arsenal and that appears to be a key reason behind any potential move.
The report claims that Arsenal were ready to bring in Woodman to challenge Bernd Leno to the first-team spot at The Emirates. However, the current form of Martinez in place of the injured German has seen those plans shelved.
What next for Woodman?
It seems that Woodman will be on his way out Newcastle on loan again next season. Speaking earlier this month, Toon boss Steve Bruce was quoted by the Northern Echo as stating Woodman would be sent out again next term for more first-team football – with Martin Dubravka currently the undisputed number one at St James’ Park.
Other clubs may now be interested in Woodman but Arsenal appear to be out of the picture for now.
