According to the Daily Mirror, Leicester City are becoming increasingly concerned that Arsenal will trigger 25-year-old midfielder N’Golo Kante’s £20million release clause this summer. Reports suggest the Gunners have already registered interest in the Frenchman and somewhat understandably The Foxes hierarchy fear he could be tempted to link up with compatriot Arsene Wenger at the Emirates. Kante has offered no assurances that he will stay this summer and Leicester will be unable to compete for wages with Arsenal, due to Financial Fair Play.
Is he needed at the Emirates?
Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy often stole the headlines during Leicester’s remarkable Premier League winning season, however, Kante’s dogged displays were just as crucial to their title victory, as he topped the defensive midfield stats with an incredible 175 tackles and 156 interceptions to his name. While Francis Coquelin has been heralded as the answer to the Gunners’ problems in midfield, he has proven inconsistent since his rise to first team prominence. If Arsenal want the best player available in the centre of the park, Kante is exactly what Arsene Wenger needs.
