Report: Arsenal to make last-ditch effort to sign Vlahovic alternative who is 'like Suarez but with more quality'
Arsenal are ready to make a last-ditch attempt to try and sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic this month, as they become increasingly unlikely to land his Serbian teammate, Dusan Vlahovic.
According to The Sun, Jovic has been told he can leave Madrid this January. The Serbian ace has scored just once all season and has struggled massively since signing for Los Blancos for more than £50m. It’s claimed the Gunners will look at a short-term loan for Jovic until the summer, with Mikel Arteta desperate for a new number nine.
Sunday’s blank against Burnley only further enhanced the calls for Arsenal to add more firepower. And with the likes of Nketiah, Lacazette, and Aubameyang all facing uncertain futures, a new striker is a must.
Jovic, who is still just 24, made his name with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. But since moving to Madrid, the goals have dried up and he is now free to leave. Arsenal, then, are waiting in the wings. Indeed, it was only this morning that we reported on TBR how Jovic had been offered to the Gunners.
The Serbian was highly-rated in Germany and drew comparisons to both Luis Suarez and Karim Benzema. One report even suggesting Jovic had even more quality than Suarez.
TBR’s View: Jovic A Gamble For Arsenal
Signing a striker who has had a few years being out of form is always a risk. And that’s the case here with Arsenal and Luka Jovic.
Of course, Arteta will hope to get the player we all saw in Germany. Quick, strong, and a lethal finisher, he was – at the time – everything Arsenal need right now.
But he has struggled and struggled for a while now. So while a short-term loan might not be the end of the world here, there is a risk Jovic doesn’t bring the goals needed right now for the Gunners.
