Report: Arsenal have now just pulled out of race to sign Raphinha from Leeds

Arsenal might have completed the signing of Gabriel Jesus tonight, but they won’t be signing Raphinha from Leeds, according to Sport.

The Gunners had been hoping to sign both Jesus and Raphinha this week as they look to give Mikel Arteta the tools to mount another challenge for the top four and beyond. However, Sport has reported tonight that Arsenal have now pulled out of the race for Raphinha altogether.

It’s claimed that the Leeds winger is adamant he will sign for Barcelona and he is waiting on a bid to come in from the Spanish giants. Of course, that might never come, unless they manage to sort out their financial situation. They are close to selling Frenkie de Jong though, which could help them with Raphinha.

For Arsenal fans, though, the good news of Jesus will be dampened by this about Raphinha. The Gunners support had ideas of a Brazilian attack but it looks like they’ll now have to shop elsewhere.

Chelsea and Tottenham are also thought to be keen on Raphinha. However, it appears the Brazilian has his heart set on Barcelona as things stand right now.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Can’t Have It All

The Gunners can still be happy with their window so far, albeit missing out on Raphinha is a bit of a blow.

The Leeds winger would have given the Arsenal frontline real dynamism and flair and it would have been exciting to see how he dovetailed with Saka and Jesus.

But, it’s not to be, for now at least. Arsenal will have other players lined up and it seems they’ll keep backing Mikel Arteta until his squad is right.
