Mikel Arteta will be desperate to keep Arsenal’s pursuit of European football on course and take the Gunners run of unbeaten league games to five when they face north London rivals Tottenham on Sunday – but he could be without seven players.
Since defeats to Brighton and Manchester City immediately after the restart, Arsenal have been much better under the Spanish boss. The Gunners have progressed into the FA Cup semi-finals, and picked up 10 from a possible 12 points.
Two goals conceded in their last five games and four wins over Sheffield United – in the Cup – Southampton, Norwich and Wolves have propelled Arsenal back into contention for Europa League, and possibly even Champions League football.
Eddie Nketiah was sent off last time out during a 1-1 draw with Leicester City and the Gunners have failed in their appeal to have the red card overturned. He will serve the first of a three-match suspension on Sunday evening.
Mesut Ozil will be assessed over his fitness as he struggles with a back injury, while Matteo Guendouzi has failed to make the 20-man squad for the past five games. Both are likely to miss the rival clash.
Along with the aforementioned trio, Gabriel Martinelli, Bernd Leno, Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari are all out for the rest of the season – taking the tally of senior players out of action to seven. Arteta is unlikely to make any changes, though.
It means Nicolas Pepe will remain on the bench, as will the returning Lucas Torreira.
