A disastrous afternoon for the Gunners as Tottenham confirmed their place above them for the first time in over two decades. The first half had been an even affair, with both sides battling hard and Arsenal held on despite Tottenham enjoying the much better chances.
However, Spurs were more incisive second half and Dele Alli weaved in and out of the Gunners’ back line before reacting quickest to pounce on the rebound after Petr Cech saved from Christian Eriksen.
Only moments later, the tie seemed to be over as Gabriel recklessly fouled Harry Kane as he burst into the penalty area to allow the visitors’ nemesis to notch yet another goal against them, this time from the penalty spot. After that, the visitors failed to pose any kind of threat and Spurs comfortably saw the game out.
Here are how the Gunners players rated:
Petr Cech – 8
Made good saves from Victor Wanyama, Jan Vertonghen, Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld, even doing well to deny Christian Eriksen in the build up to the opening goal. Little he could do about either strike and saved his side a lot of embarrassment in the second half.
