Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has taken to Instagram to issue a rallying cry ahead of the club’s Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool.

The Gunners appear to be in somewhat disarray ahead of the match, with the Granit Xhaka situation still very much the focus of people’s attention.

The 27-year-old’s angry reaction after being substituted against Crystal Palace has been met with calls for him to be stripped of the captaincy.

He won’t travel to face Liverpool on Wednesday, and Unai Emery has said that the Switzerland international will apologise to fans when he is ready.

One man that will travel is Ozil, who hasn’t been seen in an Arsenal shirt since the 5-0 Carabao Cup demolition of Nottingham Forest last month, a game he was made captain for.

Despite his personal situation, he spoke like a leader ahead of the game, writing on Instagram: “Big game ahead. No matter what – the only way is standing together as one.”

TBR’s view – Ozil’s turnaround?

Ozil seems raring to play against Liverpool, and lots of fans are clamouring to see him again after strangely being left out of the last few squads by Emery.

The Xhaka situation can actually be ideal for him to step up and be counted for – he can use the situation to turn around his fortunes.

Fans are concerned about the club’s seeming lack of leadership, but if the German maestro can return with a bang against the Reds then he can help the Gunners move on from Xhaka-gate and perhaps breathe confidence into the supporters again.
