Arsenal or Manchester United - Micah Richards predicts who'll finish higher in the Premier League
The Premier League title race seemed like it was only between Arsenal and Manchester City, but Manchester United have now emerged as candidates after their derby win at Old Trafford.
The Gunners are in the lead at the moment, eight points clear of the defending champions and nine above the two Uniteds – Manchester and Newcastle. Mikel Arteta’s men should back themselves to go all the way this season, but it will not be easy – despite the huge lead at the top.
Richards has now had his say about United being the third horse in the race.
Arsenal or Manchester United – Micah Richards predicts who’ll finish higher in the Premier League
Arsenal have been absolutely incredible in the Premier League this season. They’ve lost just once all campaign and completely deserve to be where they are – at the top of the table.
Manchester City haven’t really been at their best despite Erling Haaland’s addition. However, they are still pound-for-pound the best team in the country, and you can never rule them out of the title race.
Ten Hag’s Manchester United were ridiculed after their terrible start to the season, but they’ve lost just twice in the league after their defeat to Brentford. That is an extraordinary run, and they deserve to be in the conversation – at least for now.
Speaking about the title race and who’ll finish where, Richards thinks it’s still too early for United to win the Premier League this season. He thinks it’ll be one of Arsenal or Manchester City.
He said on The Monday Night Club on 5 Live Sport on BBC Sounds: “I’m not going to say they (Manchester United) can’t because in the end, I’ll look stupid. But do I think they will? No, not this season I don’t.
“I think Arsenal and Man City – it’ll be between one of those two teams, yes.”
Following City’s loss in the Manchester derby and Arsenal’s win in the North London Derby, the gap between the two sides is a staggering eight points.
If you had told a football fan this would be the case at the start of the season, they would’ve called you crazy, but that’s how good Arsenal have been in the Premier League this term.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side are still the favourites in many people’s eyes and rightly so. They know how to g0o on a 15-game winning run. If they do and Arsenal slip up at any point, the pressure on the shoulders of this young Gunners side may prove to be a bit too much.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming weeks and months. Up next for Arsenal, is a game against Manchester United at the Emirates.
