Arsenal now well-positioned to swoop for £55m striker deemed ‘one of the best’ around

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney in recent months and speculation will likely intensify going into the summer.

The Gunners may boast a great attacking selection at present, but there’s certainly scope for an out-and-out centre-forward to complete the team.

Toney would no doubt be the perfect man for the job for Arsenal, all things considered (such as his talent, traits, age and Premier League experience).

The 27-year-old has gone from strength to strength in recent years and, after missing eight months to suspension, he’s already back on the goal trail.

Since returning to action, Toney has scored three goals in his last four Premier League outings, helping his side to two victories in that time.

Arsenal target Ivan Toney ‘absolutely ready’ for big Premier League move

Now, Rudy Galetti has told CaughtOffside that Arsenal are particularly well-positioned for Toney, who Brentford seem resigned to losing in the summer.

The journalist also reported that the Bees are currently evaluating proposals for the England international that start at £55million.

“Brentford know that they will not be able to keep the English striker in the summer and are ready for an auction,” wrote Galetti.

“Thomas Frank and the board at the West London club are currently evaluating proposals from various suitors that start from around £55million.

“From Toney’s perspective, he is absolutely ready for the big leap to a top Premier League club.

“He’s been followed for a long time by Manchester United, even though they preferred Rasmus Hojlund last summer.

“The Red Devils will have competition for his services, however, with Arsenal now well positioned to be able to make a tempting offer to both the Bees and the striker.

“Despite some previous links with Chelsea, it’s the Gunners that are now fully in the race for the Brentford ace, especially in light of the fact that they will sell Eddie Nketiah at the end of the season.”

Considering Toney’s ballpark valuation has been in the region of £80-100million over the past nine months or so, it’s good to hear a figure of £55million being bandied about.

With Toney’s contract expiring in 2025, it would take a remarkable turn of events for him not to be sold this summer for maximum value.

Just under a year ago, Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports he felt the reported Arsenal target is “one of the best attacking players in the Premier League”.

Toney has certainly cemented that claim, and so it’ll be exciting to see what the summer brings in terms of transfer sagas. Hopefully the Gunners can move and wrap this up quickly.
