Andrea Berta is hard at work in his first transfer window as Director of Football at Arsenal, with the Italian keen to ensure the Gunners have a better season than last term.
Arsenal have already spent around £75m on Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga, who were necessary additions after Jorginho, Thomas Partey and Neto departed.
Now, the Gunners are working to finalise three more deals which are more focused on taking the squad to the next level, with Viktor Gyokeres, Cristhian Mosquera and Noni Madueke all close to joining.
The latter deal has been met with some backlash from Arsenal fans – who are annoyed to see Mikel Arteta sign yet another player from Chelsea – and Charles Watts has now shared what those at the Emirates Stadium think of their deal for the England international.
Arsenal think Noni Madueke is a fantastic addition
Writing about the £52m deal in his column for Caught Offside, the reliable journalist states: “I know Arsenal are very happy with the price they have paid.
“They believe it matches up well to what other players of Madueke’s profile have moved for this summer, and are adamant that in a couple of years time people will look on it as an excellent piece of business.
“Arteta has really been pushing this deal, he believes Madueke can thrive in an environment like Arsenal’s and does not view him as a back-up. He is bringing him in to play a lot of games, whether that be on the right or on the left.”
The price certainly is a reasonable one when you consider what other wingers have been sold for this summer.
How £52m Noni Madueke deal compares to some other Premier League transfers
For example, Omari Hutchinson – a Hale End graduate – has just been the subject of a £35m bid from Brentford, which Ipswich have actually rejected.
The 21-year-old has no caps for England, and only 32 Premier League appearances. In comparison, Madueke boasts 67 Premier League outings and seven England caps at the age of 23.
Anthony Elanga also swapped Nottingham Forest for Newcastle in a £55m deal – the same fee Tottenham spent to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.
In that respect, £52m for Madueke does seem like a reasonable fee – even more so when you consider £48m is the initial payment with £4m in potential bonuses.
