Arsenal now reportedly want to sign PL player who Ian Wright said 'never stops working'

Arsenal have enjoyed a fruitful transfer window this summer, but a new senior winger continues to elude the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s charges have been linked with the likes of Raphinha, Raheem Sterling, Serge Gnabry and Moussa Diaby.

However, the first two have gone elsewhere, while the latter two have committed their futures to their respective clubs.

Now, reports have emerged suggesting Arsenal could look across London for another reinforcement up front.

According to Defensa Central, the Gunners are mulling over a move for Chelsea forward Timo Werner.

As well as Arsenal, Real Madrid are apparently eyeing the Germany international.

Newcastle United have also previously been linked to the 53-cap ace.

Werner has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 26-year-old has struggled to impress following his £45million move from RB Leipzig in 2020.

Werner has scored just 23 goals in 89 appearances for the Blues, and just 10 in the Premier Leagye.

The arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City this summer could see his game time limited further. has reported that Werner is open to leaving Chelsea this summer.

And apparently, the club won’t stand in his way should they receive a suitable offer.

“You can still get something from him”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is a fan of Werner.

In April, he told Match of the Day (via “He never stops working, he never stops trying.”

However, Wright also admitted that “he’s so unlucky as a striker. He’s one of the most unlucky strikers I’ve seen.”

Later on in April, Wright said on the Kelly & Wrighty show: “I don’t care what anyone says.

“Timo Werner puts in the kind of performances where you can still get something from him.”

Surely not – TBR View

Werner to Arsenal is certainly a surprising transfer rumour.

Though he has played on the wings, he is primarily a centre-forward.

At present, Arteta has Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as his main options up front.

It’s not as though Arsenal couldn’t do with another striker for the sake of strength in depth.

However, the Gunners would likely have to spend a lot of money to sign him and pay his wages.

Aside from his high price tag, he reportedly earns £268,000-a-week at Chelsea.

Werner’s Bundesliga scoring record suggests there is potential for Werner to become a prolific forward again.

But the evidence has yet to be seen in the Premier League.

And Arsenal surely won’t pay so much money on what is essentially a big-money gamble.
