Arsenal now reportedly want to sign 'complete' 19-year-old likened to Dejan Kulusevski
With the World Cup bringing a halt to the Premier League, Arsenal can now take stock and plan for the remainder of the season.
The Gunners have enjoyed a near-perfect campaign so far, sitting five points clear at the top of the table.
Mikel Arteta’s charges are also in the last 16 of the Europa League and will fancy their chances in the competition.
However, Arsenal must not – and likely will not – rest on their laurels. This will surely include recruitment.
According to Footmercato, the Gunners are looking at one of France’s top attacking talents ahead of the January transfer window.
Arsenal are apparently in the race for Toulouse’s Fares Chaibi alongside Spanish outfit Seville.
As per Footmercato, the Gunners reportedly had scouts in attendance when Toulouse drew with Strasbourg in October.
Arsenal target Chaibi – factfile
Chaibi is enjoying a great breakout season under Philippe Montanier, with 13 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt.
The versatile 19-year-old has also registered two goals and four assists in the league in 2022-23.
Chaibi came through the Toulouse ranks after joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
He has featured on the wing, in midfield, and even up front for his side.
Mikel Arteta could do with reinforcements across the front line, so Chaibi would certainly tick those boxes.
‘A physical behemoth with a touch of class’
Scouting outlet Breaking the Lines published an article about Toulouse earlier this month.
This included an in-depth section about the reported Arsenal target.
‘Chaobi looks to tragically be another one who got away from Lyon,’ they began.
‘A team who just in the last three years have waved goodbye to Melvin Bard, Martin Terrier, Amine Gouiri and Oumar Solet all for measly fees.
‘The 19-year-old Chaibi may be young, and in his first season of senior football, but the signs show he could go on to outshine all of those names listed.
‘He’s been deployed mainly as a substitute, across the striker and left wing role.
‘What stands out about him on the pitch is that, much like Dejan Kulusevski across the channel and Nicolo Zaniolo over the alps, Chaibi is a physical behemoth with a touch of class.
‘He does tend to operate a little more centrally than those two wingers, having sometimes started upfront for Toulouse, but that preference for wide spaces is still there.
‘His finishing is looking very confident too for a young man, evidenced by his belting strike against Paulo Fonseca’s Lille.’
In October, Montanier described Chaibi as a “complete” player who is “well equipped for the top level”.
