Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing AS Roma defender Leonardo Spinazzola, with Aston Villa also chasing the Italian international.

The 30-year-old left-back’s contract with the Italian giants is due to expire at the end of this season, with Premier League clubs now interested in signing Spinazzola.

And that’s where Arsenal enter the picture, with the Gunners keen on signing a left-back with Jakub Kiwior currently the only available player in the position for Mikel Arteta.

According to LaRoma24, the north London side have registered an interest in Spinazzola, who has been one of the better-performing fullbacks in Serie A in recent years.

And a player who Jose Mourinho is a big fan of as per TalkSport, Spinazzola could be a cost-effective signing for the Gunners if they truly intend to sign a left-back this summer.

However, given Spinazzola’s age and injury record, Arsenal might be taking a risk in making a move for the Italian international, especially if Villa are also interested.

Arsenal can do better than Leonardo Spinazzola this month

Given Spinazzola’s age and injury record, it’s safe to assume that the Roma defender might not be made for Premier League football at this stage of his career.

Whilst Arsenal could benefit from a left-back signing this month, the north London side should be thinking outside the box when it comes to a new recruit.

And although Spinazzola could serve some purpose, there are too many red flags in the defender’s profile that Arsenal simply can’t ignore if they do indeed want to pursue the Italian international this month.
