Arsenal are now reportedly the front-runners to sign Ivan Toney – but Brentford are set to demand around £80 million for the striker.

That’s according to The Standard, with the outlet claiming that Arsenal are weighing up a move for a new striker in January.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Ivan Toney ahead of the winter transfer window.

Indeed, journalist Tom Toddy has already admitted that he expects Toney to join Arsenal in January.

The 27-year-old is currently serving an eight-month suspension after breaching FA gambling rules but is set to return to action in mid-January.

And if Arsenal do decide to move for a new forward, they will face competition should they firm up their interest in Toney.

The Standard reports that Brentford are willing to offload Toney once he returns from his suspension.

The Englishman will have just 18 months left on his current deal come January and the Bees want £80 million for the striker.

It’s noted that Arsenal are considering a move for a reliable goalscorer to boost their title chances.

But Chelsea are also keen and both London clubs are labelled as the ‘front-runners’ for Toney’s signature at this stage.

Toney has been described as a ‘world-class’ forward after impressing for Brentford in the Premier League over the past couple of years.

He netted an impressive total of 20 goals in 33 league appearances for Thomas Frank’s side last time out.

Of course, it remains unclear what kind of form Toney will be able to produce upon his return to football. But if the striker quickly gets back to where he was last season, he could be a huge addition to Arsenal’s side.

It’s no secret that both Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have struggled to provide goals consistently. Toney would certainly provide this while he would also give Arteta a completely different kind of option up front.
