Arsenal news: Arteta provides Tierney and Martinelli injury updates
Mikel Arteta has revealed the latest injury update about Arsenal pair Kieran Tierney and Gabriel Martinelli.
What’s the news?
The two players limped off during yesterday’s 2-0 loss at home to Chelsea.
Tierney suffered a quad injury and was replaced by Nuno Tavares. While Martinelli came off with cramp as explained by Mikel Arteta in his post-match press conference.
The duo could be set to hand the Gunners a headache ahead of this week.
With a midweek fixture away to West Bromwich Albion, Tavares could be forced to play twice in just four days.
And with Alexandre Lacazette and Willian potentially out with COVID-19, Martinelli could leave Arteta short in attack.
When talking about the pair, Arteta said: “Yeah they had to limp off. KT had an issue with his quad and Gabi was cramping. With Bukayo they have not played 90 minutes for a long time, but we have to ask them to do it.”
Tierney and Martinelli injuries a bitter blow
Yesterday could not have gone much worse for the north Londoners.
Turned over on their own patch by their city-rivals and condemned to a second successive defeat in the Premier League.
The injuries suffered by Tierney and Martinelli are further inconveniences for Arsenal.
Arteta is already having to deal with a whole host of issues in attack and midfield and the duo just add further stress.
But there is a concerning trend emerging.
Tierney’s quad problem is just one injury in an Arsenal career littered with issues. His fitness leaves big question marks moving forward.
Meanwhile, with the £6m Brazilian failing to stay fit, he too is showing a concerning trend at such a tender age.
Injury problems have hampered the Gunners in the past decade or so. Is this set to continue for yet another year?
