Report: Arsenal could still sign 'special' £40m man, but big-name player will depart The Emirates
Arsenal remain interested in signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester City but would need to move on one of their higher profile players in order to do the deal.
Tielemans has been on the radar of the Gunners all summer and it’s been claimed in the last 48 hours that Tielemans would indeed love to join Arsenal if the chance came along. However, according to Goal, Arsenal would need to move on one of their bigger name players in order for a deal for Tielemans to go ahead.
Goal reports how while it’s not ‘beyond the realms of possibility’ that Tielemans still joins Arsenal, the stage of the summer we are at means a deal is now less likely than it was previously. Indeed, it’s claimed it would take the sale of one of Arsenal’s big hitters for the Gunners to make their move.
For Tielemans, that will come as a disappointing blow. Players such as Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey are unlikely to be sold, while Oleksandr Zinchenko is also expected to play a more central role as well.
It seems, for now at least, that the ship has sailed when it comes to Youri Tielemans joining Arsenal.
TBR’s View: Arsenal Could Regret Not Signing Tielemans
For what looked like being an easy deal to do at one point, it seems odd that the Gunners aren’t going to get Tielemans now.
Sure, they’ve had a good summer and made some good signings. But the central midfield area still looks a bit light, especially when you consider Xhaka being partial to a red card and Partey’s injury problems.
Tielemans could play for most teams in England and it would be a surprise to see him still with Leicester come the end of the window. At just £40m, he is a bargain, albeit he is available for nothing in a years time.
