Bitter north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are set for a summer transfer tussle for Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, according to the Sun.
They report that the Gunners have been on the trail of the Argentina international left-back for quite some time now but Mauricio Pochettino has recently joined the race.
Ajax are reportedly ready to cash in on the player they signed for just £3.6m from Independiente and Spurs feel an offer of £15m would be enough to get their man.
Spurs are well-stocked at left-back, with Ben Davies and Danny Rose vying for a starting place but Nacho Monreal’s expiring contract and ageing legs are a greater concern for Unai Emery.
That means that Arsenal’s need for Tagliafico is greater than Tottenham’s and £15m in the current climate looks a decent price for an international defender who has Champions League experience to boot and is just 26 years of age.
Sead Kolasinac has had a decent season for Arsenal, but if Monreal leaves or declines any further, Emery simply must get into the market to procure a replacement, and some competition for the rampaging Bosnian.
Beating Spurs to land the Argentine would be a handy bonus as well, with both clubs keen to make a splash in the market this summer, after sustain periods of underinvestment.
