Arsenal are interested in Paris Saint Germain midfielder Christopher Nkunku, according to Get French Football, via the Daily Express.
They report that the Gunners want the PSG powerhouse, but will only have the opportunity to get their man if the French champions land a new central midfielder beforehand.
That is where Unai Emery’s transfer business is apparently intertwined with Everton’s, because if Idrissa Gueye joins PSG, it would free up Nkunku to move to the Emirates Stadium.
Everton’s season is effectively over and they may well be tempted by the prospect of cashing in on Gueye – and Arsenal will certainly be hoping that they do, leaving the coast clear form them to swoop for Nkunku.
The French Under 21 international would be forced further down the pecking order if Gueye joined Leandro Paredes at the Parc des Princes this month, allowing Arsenal to engineer a deal to boost their options in the engine room.
Gunners fans may not like the idea of not being in control of their own transfer destiny – and the fact that Everton are lower down the league than them but seemingly still having an effect isn’t ideal – but it won’t matter if they get their man.
