Silas Wamangituka is not a name that fans of the Premier League will have heard before, but those with a particular liking for Bundesliga football will know all about the Stuttgart speedster – and Arsenal have got to take a look.
The 21-year-old attacker rose to prominence last season when he joined Stuttgart from Paris FC, having a hand in 16 goals during 31 games as the German side gained promotion back to the top tier of German football.
Despite the step up, Wamangituka has only improved. Largely coming from the right flank, the DR Congo speed machine has scored an impressive 11 goals in 22 Bundesliga matches – and Premier League clubs are being linked.
EuroSport claim both Everton and Fulham are scouting the exciting Stuttgart winger – with the report itself comparing Wamangituka to that of Arsenal’s stuttering Ivorian attacker Nicolas Pepe in terms of breakthrough.
But surely Arsenal need to take a look, too? Firstly, Arsenal could do with a winger. Reiss Nelson is playing in the Under-23 side and does not look as though he will make the grade under Mikel Arteta – while Pepe is struggling.
Elsewhere, Willian has proven an expensive flop so far – so the Gunners need an addition out wide that can actually have an impact. Secondly, they should be on red alert, following Sven Mislintat’s verdict on the wide man.
Arsenal’s ex head of recruitment raved about Wamangituka just this season – telling Bundesliga’s website: “Massive engine, extremely fast, strong. His mentality and his attitude to learn every single day.”
It is unclear how much sporting director Mislintat and Stuttgart will sell their most-prized asset for if clubs come calling in the summer – but one thing is for certain, Premier League sides will take a look, given his form.
Arsenal have got to be among that list of top-tier English sides. They need to add to their raw, attacking base of young talent in the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe – and Wamangituka would be ideal.
