Arsenal have been dealt a transfer blow with the news that reported target, Orkun Kokcu, has signed a new deal with Feyenoord.
The Dutch giants confirmed the 19-year-old has signed a new deal over in the Netherlands, with the midfielder putting pen to paper on a contract until 2025.
News of Kokcu’s deal will be a bitter blow for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who had been courting the Turkish star for a number of months. Indeed, the Metro claimed at the beginning of June that a bid was imminent.
However, Kokcu has performed something of a U-turn it would seem. Despite signing a new deal, it had seemed the teenager was all set and willing to leave Feyenoord.
The news is, of course, a huge boost for the Dutch giants. Kokcu has played his part in nine goals this season, with six assists and three goals to his name in the Eredivisie.
Arsenal will be concerned at seeing another target fall by the wayside. In a week that has seen Matteo Guendouzi’s future come under the spotlight, Kokcu might have been the ideal replacement.
Gunners just having no luck it seems, a big fee would now be needed – TBR View
Obviously in football, contracts can often not mean the paper they are written on. However, this surely means that Arsenal’s chances of landing the Turkish star are now over.
That is, of course, unless they come up with a mammoth fee to try and tempt Feyenoord. Which is why it is a clever piece of business from the Dutch side.
They’ve protected themselves financially while making sure they’re more than likely ensuring they’ve got one of the top young European midfielders on their books next season. Jaap Stam once claimed Kokcu was one of the best midfielders in the Dutch league, too. (The Daily Mail)
It is, then, another kick in the teeth for the Gunners.
