Arsenal star Lucas Torreira is supposedly wanted by La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid.
According to a report from Calciomercato, the Champions League club are looking at the South American and are ready to fight Napoli next month for his services.
Torreira has struggled to reach his best form this term, and appeared to be playing out of position at times under Unai Emery.
He has made no secret of missing Italian football, although he has just given an interview to the Gunners’ official website in which he discusses helping Arsenal achieve their goals for the season.
Arsenal are unlikely to want to lose Torreira in the middle of the season, but it is not something that’s out of the question.
If they do find themselves in a position where the player pushes to go to the Spanish club, then perhaps Arsenal officials should explore the potential to do a swap deal involving the brilliant Thomas Partey.
TBR’s view – Partey would be an excellent replacement
Atleti’s Ghanaian dynamo Partey would an absolutely brilliant coup for Arsenal, who are seriously lacking grit and steel in their midfield.
Torreira is tenacious, but all-action Partey is a level above the Uruguayan.
If there was to be any hint of a possibility of bringing him to the Emirates, the club should be all over it.
Realistically given Partey’s quality, Arsenal would have to part with some cash as well as Torreira.
