Sevilla have reportedly enquired about Lucas Torreira ahead of this summer’s transfer window, with the Arsenal midfielder likely to leave the Premier League side in the coming months.

According to Spanish outlet Libertad Digital, the La Liga club are keen on adding Torreira to their ranks this summer, with the report stating that Sevilla have already ‘officially asked’ the north London club if they’re willing to conduct business surrounding the 25-year-old Uruguayan international.

Torreira has spent this season on loan with fellow Spanish side Atletico Madrid, with Sevilla just six points off the La Liga leaders with three games left to play, though the former Sampdoria midfielder has failed to make much of an impact with Diego Simeone’s side, making just three starts in the league since joining in the summer.

It is widely expected that Torreira will leave Arsenal once the transfer window is open for business, with football.london reporting that the former Serie A star is one of many first-team players who have put up for sale by Mikel Arteta as the Spanish manager plans a huge squad overhaul following a disastrous season for the north London club.

TBR View: Torreira can rediscover his form with permanent move away from Arsenal

Despite an electric first few months with Arsenal, Torreira’s stock has fallen dramatically over the past 18 months for both the Gunners and on loan with Atletico, and it is widely agreed by supporters that a permanent transfer away from north London is exactly what the 25-year-old midfielder needs for his career.

It is easy to forget that Torreira was once one of Europe’s most sought after midfielders, with his performances in the 2018 World Cup making it look like Arsenal had secured a major coup with the former Samp star, but his form has been dipped massively since his bright start with the Gunners, and with a squad clear-out looking likely, moving the Uruguayan on for good would be a smart move by Arteta.
