Mesut Ozil can transform Arsenal’s season if Unai Emery is brave enough

The 30-year-old has been used on an infrequent basis by the Gunners boss this season.

Arsenal ensured qualification into the last 16 of the Europa League last night with an accomplished win over BATE Borisov.

The Gunners ran out -0 winners and were good value for the victory.

Unai Emery’s men now face Rennes of France in the next stage, in another very winnable fixture.

The Gunners only have the Europa League left if they are to claim silverware from this campaign.

They are still firmly in the hunt for a Champions League place but may see winning the Europa League as a safer bet.

Last night saw Emery throw Mesut Ozil back into first-team action after using him sparingly this season.

The move proved fruitful and he can be the player to ensure Arsenal don’t need to win the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League.

Ozil at his very best is one of the top players in the division and it seems criminal that he hasn’t been used more often this season.

 

The 30-year-old is one of few players within the Gunners ranks that is capable of unlocking the opposition defence.

Okay, so Ozil hasn’t always come up trumps during his time in north London, but then is there a player who has in recent years?

According to Who Scored, Ozil had a pass success rate of 89% last night, highlighting his desire to ensure that Arsenal kept the ball.

His presence in the final third made others around him come alive and he was a real handful for BATE.

Emery needs to swallow his pride and make Ozil a mainstay in his team.

On this latest showing, he is keen to prove a big point.
