Arsenal secured their passage into the last 16 of the Europa League last night with a 3-0 win over BATE Borisov.

The Gunners were in control throughout and never looked like going out, despite a one-goal deficit from the first leg.

Unai Emery bounced back from some shoddy form of late to keep Arsenal’s hopes of European silverware alive.

A surprise inclusion in the Arsenal line-up saw Mesut Ozil handed a very rare start for the Gunners.

The 30-year-old showed boss Emery exactly what he has been missing during the campaign with a timely performance.

The high-earner has only featured in half of Arsenal’s league games this season and doubts had been cast over his future role at the club.

This was the Ozil of old.

The attacking midfielder was majestic on a night when the Gunners really needed him to stand up and be counted.

There are no guarantees from Emery, however. He told BBC Sport after the game that the German will continue to be rotated.

On last night’s showing, it will be incredibly difficult to leave Ozil out.
