Arsenal have struck gold over the past few years on the young prospect front.

The likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have come from the Gunners academy.

And in the transfer market, Arsenal signed Gabriel Martinelli and turned him into a future superstar.

Now, it looks as though the Gunners may have repeated the feat with Marquinhos.

The 19-year-old was the Gunners’ first signing of the summer, joining from Sao Paulo for £3million.

He arrived at Arsenal as one for the future and wasn’t expected to be thrown in at the deep end.

However, Marquinhos has quickly made a name for himself at London Colney and at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners boss recently said, per “I’m very happy with him.

“He has adapted very well and he’s a really likeable figure in the dressing room and around Colney.

“His language is not great yet but I think his physicality has been pretty exceptional.

“For someone who has come from Brazil and has a different way to train and play, but he’s done it.

“I think he’s got the qualities for how we want to play.

“We will keep him here for another few months and make sure that he establishes himself at the club and in the team.

“Afterwards, we’ll see what the best movement is for his career.”

“A take-two of Saka”

Arteta handed Marquinhos his debut in Thursday’s Europa League win over FC Zurich.

And the teenager took his chance superbly, registering a goal and an assist.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown loved what he saw from Marquinhos.

“Some great performances on show,” he told BT Sport.

“Marquinhos, he looks like a take-two of Saka, doesn’t he. Left-footed player, plays on that right wing.

“One assist, one goal, really, that’s a real plus for the manager because he can look upon him now and say, ‘okay, we can bring you in if we need him’.

“He’s got a huge future ahead of him. He looked like a Gnabry-type player, short, stocky, really explosive pace. And he was very classy.”

Of course, tougher tests lie ahead for Arsenal and Marquinhos.

But the early signs are incredibly promising – being compared to Saka and Gnabry is quite a compliment.

And many will be hugely excited about what he could do in the coming years for the Gunners.
