France bowed out of the Under-21 European Championships last night with a 4-1 defeat over their Spanish counterparts.
Things started so well for the French. Jean-Philippe Mateta fired them into a lead from the penalty spot.
Goals from Marc Roca, Mikel Oyarzabal, Dani Olmo and Borja Mayoral ensured a comfortable passage into the final.
Despite a heavy defeat, there was praise for Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. It was the 20-year-old’s first start of the tournament.

He wasn’t without fault. A loose pass in the second half led to a Spain goal but given his age, those small errors are to be expected.
Guendouzi recovered well from his mistake, however, and his performance, on the whole, left the Arsenal fans watching on rather impressed.
The Gunners midfielder had a decent maiden season at the Emirates Stadium.
He played 48 games in all competitions and showed undoubted potential to become a top player for the club.

Following last night’s decent showing on the international stage, Arsenal fans took to Twitter.
Here is a selection of tweets from the Gunners faithful regarding Guendouzi:
