Arsenal are monitoring the situation regarding Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Mario Gotze, according to German outlet Bild.
The 26-year-old scored seven goals and registered seven assists during 2018/19, but is thought to be considering his future at Dortmund.
Any potential move for Gotze is likely to be dependant on the outcome of tonight’s Europa League final with Chelsea. A report in The Mirror suggests the Gunners will have just £40 million to spend this summer unless Champions League qualification is secured.
The Germany international could be available for a cut-price fee and Arsenal are apparently prepared to meet his wage demands of £150k-a-week (Silly Season).
Boss Unai Emery will be on the lookout for reinforcements in the summer, most notably to fill the void left by Aaron Ramsey’s switch to Juventus.
Gotze is exactly the type of signing that Arsenal fans want to see their club making.
For too long now the club has regressed and tonight could see them return to Europe’s elite club competition and start on the long road back towards major honours.
In order to challenge for Premier League titles once again, more players like Gotze will need to be added to the ranks.
The former Bayern performer would fit effortlessly into Emery’s system at Arsenal but first, they must overcome Chelsea this evening in Baku.
If the crown can be secured, Arsenal might just be in the box seat to land the German this summer.
