Arsenal make Sanson approach, but another French midfielder is surely better

Arsenal are reported to have made contact with Marseille regarding the potential transfer of midfielder Morgan Sanson.

According to Le10 Sport, the Gunners have made enquiries over the 25-year-old.

Sanson could apparently be available for around £36 million, but the Ligue 1 club are in need of cash and may be forced to lower their asking price.

Arsenal seem set to lose Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira this summer, and a host of midfielders are being linked with a move to the Emirates – Thomas Partey, Philippe Coutinho and Dani Ceballos permanently to name a few.

The Sanson links are interesting, but have hardly blown Arsenal fans away on social media.

While the Frenchman is a good player,  one gets the feeling that the north Londoners could be doing better.

Arguably, his compatriot Houssem Aouar is the French midfielder the Gunners should really be going all out for this summer.

L’Equipe via GFFN claim the Gunners retain an interest in the star, along with Manchester City and Juventus.

TBR’s View – Aouar would transform Arsenal midfield

If Arsenal are to challenge for more silverware in 2020/21 following their FA Cup triumph, then Aouar is the player they should be trying to bring in.

The Lyon star’s reputation has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and his technical quality is something that would see him fit perfectly into the Arsenal starting XI.

With nine goals and eight assists in 2019/20, Aouar can clearly create, score goals and put in a shift on either wing, and appears to have more to his all-round game than Sanson.

Aouar, who is valued at around £54 million by Lyon (reports cited by MEN), is also a few years younger than his fellow countryman and has a much higher ceiling.
