Report: Arsenal offer more than £16m for South American Maitland-Niles replacement

Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Brazilian midfielder, Danilo, this January and have made a bid of over £16m for the young Palmeiras star.

According to Brazilian outlet Esportes, the Gunners have offered more than £16m to try and sign Danilo. The 20-year-old is highly-rated in South America and has featured regularly for Palmeiras in the last 12 months. He was a key part of the side that won the Copa Libertadores, playing 70 minutes in the 2-1 final win over Flamengo.

Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder after allowing Ainsley Maitland-Niles to join Roma on loan. The a fight for the top four firmly on, Edu and Mikel Arteta seem determined to give it as good as they’ve got. And that could mean acting in January.

After landing Albert Sambi Lokonga in the summer, Danilo would be another young midfielder through the door. At just 20, Danilo is already approaching the 100 appearance mark in South America.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of players this January already. A striker is also on their radar, with Dom Calvert-Lewin and Dusan Vlahovic both linked.

TBR’s View: Danilo Another Example Of Arsenal Strategy

The Brazilian ticks a number of boxes that Arsenal are looking for in the market. He’s young, not over priced, and already has experience behind him despite his age.

Danilo represents another fine young talent who Arsenal are wanting to add. They already have a youthful squad, and Danilo would be another cog in Mikel Arteta’s machine.

Of course, he’s also a fine player. You don’t go winning the main competition in South America and be a regular without having something about you. Danilo played a key role in that success, so it’s little surprise to see him being linked.

At less than £20m, you’d have to say this looks a bargain for the Gunners.
