Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares impresses out on loan yet again – this time, with an impressive display for Marseille against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League last night.
The 22-year-old had a difficult start to 2022 at Arsenal. He really struggled at times, and Mikel Arteta decided to replace him by signing Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.
Tavares was then sent out on loan and he has become a star in France now.

Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares impresses in the Champions League
Marseille beat Sporting 2-0 in the Champions League yesterday.
Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Matteo Guendouzi – two players Arsenal fans know very well – sealed the game for them, but Tavares caused the Portuguese giants all sorts of problems.
The Portuguese defender has taken his game to a whole new level since joining Marseille. His role there as a wing-back suits his style of play so much more than Arteta’s system did, and he’s thriving there.
GFFN gave Tavares a 7/10 rating for his performance yesterday and wrote: “Another solid performance for Nuno Tavares in a Marseille shirt, with dynamism and high levels of energy down the left hand side.
“His runs caused Sporting problems, which led to fouls and cards and a lot of attacks in dangerous positions for Marseille.”
Marseille’s next game is against French champions PSG and that will surely be Tavares’ toughest test yet.

TBR View:
In the summer, when Arteta loaned Tavares out and brought in Zinchenko, many fans felt that the young Portuguese defender’s Arsenal career was over.
However, after a truly sensational start to life in France, you have to wonder if Arteta will change his mind next year.
William Saliba went to Marseille last season and like Tavares, he really impressed there. Arteta brought him back to Arsenal and he’s now a regular in the heart of the Gunners’ defence.
The same could well happen to Tavares next year, especially if he keeps performing as well as he is.
