Martin Odegaard has told Norwegian outlet TV2 that the dream remains to make the grade with Real Madrid, but added that he is very happy at Arsenal.

Odegaard’s future has become a real talking point in recent weeks. After taking a little time to get really going at the Emirates, the 22-year-old is now threatening to prove an inspired signing for the Gunners.

He has been a game-changer for Mikel Arteta’s side in recent weeks. And according to The Times, he is set to feature on their summer wishlist.

Defensa Central then reported that Zinedine Zidane hopes to convince him to stay at the Bernabeu. However, Los Blancos will apparently let Odegaard make the final decision on his future as he heads towards the final two years of his contract.

There is plenty of time left until the summer, so much could change. But Odegaard has suggested that, right now, he is still hoping to become a key man in the Spanish capital.

“Yes, as I have said many times when you sign there, the goal is always to play there,” he told TV2 when asked if his dream remains to play for Madrid.

“It is of course a big dream. But at the same time I am in a nice club and am very happy where I am now. So I am very happy with the situation as it is now.”

TBR View: Still hope for Arsenal, despite comments

Real cannot become complacent over Odegaard’s future, despite his comments. The praise for Arsenal surely hints that he would be open to staying if he does not get certain assurances from Zidane.

He is playing regularly at the Emirates. And he has previously spoken of his admiration for Arteta (via Defensa Central).

So while returning to Madrid may be his first-choice, it seems that he is not yet ready to completely shut the door on Arsenal either.
