Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty scores 'superb' goal for Birmingham City
The Gunners signed the American from Colorado Rapids back in February this year. After loaning him back to the MLS side until the end of last season, Trusty was sent out to Championship side Birmingham City in the summer for the whole of this campaign.
He has become a star there.
Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty scores ‘superb’ goal for Birmingham City
Trusty has played 18 times for Birmingham City so far this season.
The 24-year-old has become a huge fan favourite at St Andrew’s and has earned rave reviews from everyone who has watched him thanks to his fantastic performances.
Trusty started for Birmingham City against Queens Park Rangers last night, and he opened the scoring after just three minutes. He had already scored twice for the Blues this season, but his strike yesterday was really special.
The American, who had his back to goal, decided to try an outrageous flick after a scuffed shot from the edge of the box. He wasn’t even looking at the goalkeeper, but his reverse lob of sorts managed to beat Seny Dieng.
Birmingham Live gave him an 8/10 rating for his display yesterday and hailed his goal.
“Scored an impudent goal that might have been embarrassing for Dieng but it was a superb piece of skill. Asked a lot of questions defensively in the second period and found all the answers,” they wrote.

When Arsenal signed Trusty earlier this year, nobody really expected him to play for the Gunners. However, if he keeps performing as he has, Mikel Arteta may decide to have a look at him next summer.
Trusty has been sensational for Birmingham City this season. His goal last night will make the headlines and rightly so, but his defending has been fantastic as well, and he’s showing real promise for someone who’s playing in Europe for the first time ever in his career.
The American, who has never played under Arteta for Arsenal before, could prove to be a surprise option next year. Gabriel Magalhaes is the Gunners’ only left-footed centre-half in the squad, and fans have been screaming for an alternative in that role.
It’s still unlikely that Trusty will get a chance at Arsenal, but football is a funny game, and if he keeps impressing in the Championship, he could get the nod next year.
