Arsenal have entered the race for reported Leeds target Gabriel Martinelli, according to reports. As per The Daily Mail, Arsenal have made an enquiry about the Ituano teenager.
Martinelli is in fine form for the fourth tier Brazilian side, scoring four goals and providing three assists for Ituano. Unsurprisingly, the 17-year-old has been attracting attention with a number of English clubs running the rule over him.
Back in summer 2017, Manchester United took Martinelli on trial but that move never materialised. This report by The Daily Mail adds that Martinelli had a trial at Barcelona and has been watched by Watford and Crystal Palace recently.
Leeds have also been linked with Martinelli in recent weeks. TEAMtalk reports that the teenage forward has been interesting Leeds but could cost around £10m.
Nonetheless, Arsenal’s presence in this transfer tussle makes it a hard task for Leeds, Crystal Palace and Watford. The lure of European football and the Emirates Stadium could be enough to tempt Martinelli to North London instead of Elland Road.
By this summer, Leeds could be a Premier League side and this could add to their appeal. But it would still be an uphill struggle trying to compete with Arsenal if both teams firm up their interest.
