Arsenal linked with 23-year-old who claims Alexis Sanchez has helped him get better
Arsenal are reportedly interested in Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, who said earlier in the year he’s had big help improving from current teammate and ex-Gunners star Alexis Sanchez.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have made contact with Italian giants Inter about Martinez.
The Serie A champions would reportedly like to keep the 23-year-old by extending his contract. However, the north London club are ambitious with their targets this summer, as they try to get better.
Martinez, along with Romelu Lukaku, were the two main strikers that started during Inter’s title-winning season. It was ex-Arsenal favourite Sanchez that played the understudy role. He still ended up contributing seven goals and seven assists in the league.
Sanchez, 32, was a massive favourite during his three-and-a-half seasons with Arsenal. The Chilean forward scored 80 goals in 166 appearances.
Gunners supporters may love to hear that reported target Martinez is a big fan of Sanchez, with the duo working together at the San Siro.
“I’m very happy to be playing close to Romelu Lukaku and he’s happy to be playing with me. We’re happy, we’re working, but even Alexis Sanchez when he comes on – and during training – helps us both to improve,” Martinez said in April, 2021.
“It’s a healthy competition we’ve got, I want to congratulate Sanchez who is helping myself and Lukaku raise our level every day.”
Lautaro Martinez would be X-factor signing at Arsenal
Aged 23, Martinez is already a scary talent. It’s exciting to think about the level he can reach in the next few years.
The Argentine centre-forward scored 40 goals combined across his last two seasons, so is performing to a high level at a club with high demands.
He’s someone that has a bit of everything to his game with great pace, hold-up play and finishing.
It’s unclear on how much he would cost, or if it’s realistic, but Martinez would be exciting for Arsenal fans.
