Arsenal’s apparent hopes of signing Faustino Anjorin have ended after Chelsea confirmed that the 18-year-old put pen to paper on a new five-year contract.
Mikel Arteta’s Gunners were said to be one of at least five Premier League teams keeping tabs on Anjorin, who was going into the final year of his Blues deal.
All Nigeria Soccer claimed in May that Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Norwich City were interested in the midfielder, along with Borussia Dortmund.

Anjorin joined the club when he was six and has worked his way through the ranks, making his first-team debut in the 7-1 League Cup win against Grimsby in September 2019.
The teenager subsequently made his Premier League debut in the 4-0 victory over Everton in March – Chelsea’s final match before the competition was suspended.
Despite the strong alleged interest from other big clubs, Anjorin said the decision to commit his long-term future to Chelsea was an easy one.
“It’s a brilliant feeling,” he told the club’s official website.
“I’ve been at the club since I was six years old so to get to this stage and then be offered another five-year contract on top of that is amazing.
“I had no hesitation but to take it straight away because to play for the club I always dreamed of playing for is really special for me.”

In wake of current events, many clubs worldwide will have to cut down on their spending, and as such, a talented youngster like Anjorin is not a surprising target for the likes of Arsenal, who are expected to have a difficult summer in the transfer market.
A strong, powerful attacking box-to-box midfielder with an eye for goal, Anjorin has also broken into the England Under-19 team and has an exciting future ahead of him – with his prior contract situation, he looked a prime candidate to be snapped up, but sadly it’s not to be for the Gunners.
