Report: Arsenal and Manchester City-linked Denis Zakaria has offers already, director says

Arsenal and Manchester City remain keen on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, Denis Zakaria, but the Swiss star has a number of offers already on the table.

That’s according to ‘Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl, who says that Zakaria is a wanted man this summer.

Zakaria is entering the final 12 months of his contract. That could force ‘Gladbach into selling a player that they valued at around £43m just last summer, for relatively cheap.

Bids in

It is believed both Arsenal and City have expressed a desire to bring Zakaria to the Premier League. However, it appears they aren’t the only ones, with Eberl confirming there are plenty of offers in for the midfielder.

‘There are a lot of offers for Zakaria, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the next few days and weeks,” Eberl told The Daily Mail.

Arsenal have, as yet, failed to bring in an established central midfield player this summer. They have signed Albert Sambi Lokonga, but he is expected to develop over the years.

Zakaria is among a host of other names linked in the position. Sander Berge of Sheffield United is one, while Granit Xhaka is expected to now stay put following interest from Roma.

Arsenal in the mix for Zakaria? More than likely

The Gunners seem to be operating a policy of getting in contact with a number of players, before seeing which deals can progress.

It makes sense, in fairness. It’s a strategy being deployed by Fabio Paratici at their London rivals, Spurs. So while there is no explicit mention of Arsenal here with Zakaria, you could assume they’re involved somewhere.

Arsenal need another midfielder. And they need them in quickly. What started as a summer of full change, is threatening to turn into a bit of a last few weeks rush job.
