Reported Arsenal target Wout Weghorst has openly spoken of his love of Liverpool in the past, but he has also praised “other great English clubs”, in conversation with Goal.com last month.
German newspaper Bild have claimed that the Wolfsburg striker is a target for both Arsenal and Newcastle United ahead of the summer window.
Despite having a contract until June 2023, Wolfsburg are reportedly willing to sanction a £32million move for the 6ft 6in giant, who was also linked with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season.

A month ago, Weghorst spoke highly of Liverpool, admitting he gets goosebumps from You’ll Never Walk Alone, but also sought not to close the door on other clubs in the Premier League.
“I always found Liverpool very special,” he told Goal and DAZN. “I still get goosebumps from ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. There are other great English clubs too, and I always liked Milan because so many Dutch played there.
“I am ambitious and want to get ahead. Maybe at some point play at another club, whether in Germany or in England? But at the moment it is still far away. I feel good and try to achieve the maximum here.”
The 27-year-old is in his second season at the Volkswagen Arena, having joined from Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2018.
To date, Weghorst has claimed 38 goals and 12 assists during his time at Wolfsburg, including 20 goals and five assists in 2019-20.
TBR View:
Standing a mighty 6ft 6in, Weghorst is the archetypal target man, a tall striker with great aerial ability who is able to hold up the ball superbly, not to mention his poacher’s instinct and eye for goal which has helped him rack up such impressive scoring figures this season.
While it’s little surprise to see him wax lyrical about Liverpool – after all, they’ve been head and shoulders above everyone this season – this shouldn’t be held against him with regards to other clubs making a move for him, as he’d definitely be able to do a job for Arsenal and other top-flight clubs.
