Reported Arsenal target Orkun Kokcu has questioned whether his club are looking to sell him amid speculation linking him with the Emirates Stadium and elsewhere (Voetbal International).
The Feyenoord winger, described by Jaap Stam as “one of the best midfield players in the country”, has been linked with Arsenal for a number of months, while Barcelona have also emerged as reported suitors.
According to a Voetbal International report from early June, Arsenal have been considering a move for Kokcu “for a long time” and are now expected to make an offer “within a few weeks”.
While the 19-year-old wants to stay at Feyenoord, he admits he is unsettled by the ongoing transfer talk and wants to see more of a commitment to him from the club.
“I’m not ready [to leave] here yet, I’m having a good time, I want to become champion next year,” the £23million-rated teenager told Voetbal International.
“But I’ve had an offer twice now [to leave] that – with all due respect – wasn’t what I’d hoped for.
“It sometimes feels like the club is pulling the time to sell me after all. That there is no turning back then. It feels a bit uncomfortable. Does Feyenoord want me to stay?”
Kokcu has already made 47 senior appearances for the Rotterdam club, scoring seven goals and registering 10 assists in all competition.
The teenager played 35 times in the 2019-20 season, scoring three goals and claiming six assists, and has been turning plenty of heads in the Eredivisie and beyond.
A skilful, technically gifted midfielder, Kokcu has been deployed as a number 10, as a box-to-box midfielder and even as a defensive midfielder.
He boasts great vision, has an eye for goal, is a superb dribbler and is able to dictate the tempo and pull the string as any top playmaker should.
However, Kokcu’s heart is firmly set on remaining at Feyenoord – is it worth Arsenal looking to sign a player who has made it clear he doesn’t want to move?
