Reported Arsenal target Wout Weghorst has told Bild that he’s free to discuss a move away from Wolfsburg if “something exciting” comes up, and insists there is “more to come” from him.
The German outlet claimed at the end of June that the 27-year-old striker is a target for both the Gunners and Premier League rivals Newcastle United ahead of the summer window.
Despite having a contract until June 2023, Wolfsburg are reportedly willing to sanction a £32million move for Weghorst, who was also linked with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season.
The 6ft 6in giant has been a success for the Saxony outfit since joining from Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2018, but he’s now aiming even higher.
“We discussed that we should sit down if something exciting came up for me,” Weghorst told Bild.
“Nobody has to be afraid. It would be good for a club to get a lot of money again after investing in a player. I have ambitions and I want to reach the highest level.
“In the past two years I have been able to show that I can deliver at this level and that there is more to come for me.”
Standing a mighty 6ft 6in, Weghorst is the archetypal target man, a tall striker with great aerial ability who is able to hold up the ball superbly, not to mention his poacher’s instinct and eye for goal which has helped him rack up such impressive scoring figures in the past few seasons.
Given the uncertain futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could well be looking at other options, and a fearsome, prolific and ambitious sharpshooter like Weghorst would certainly bring more firepower to the Gunners.
