Alex Iwobi has grown up at Arsenal but left the north London club at the 11th hour on transfer deadline day, sealing his move after the 5pm deadline had passed.
Iwobi has joined Everton, after they turned their attention to him when a deal for Wilfried Zaha couldn’t be done, and two Arsenal legends have wished him well.
Fellow Nigerian Kanu took to Twitter and wrote: “Once a Gunner, Always a Gunner. We are proud of you and will continue to support you. Good luck with your new club.”
Meanwhile, Ian Wright posted on Instagram a photo of Iwobi as a younger player at Arsenal with the words: “All the best we love you.”
Iwobi may not have completely convinced the Arsenal fans about his merits during his time there but he held a passion for the club and had a real connection with it.
It’s a big decision to take the leap to join Everton, but with the arrival of Nicolas Pepe and emergence of young guns such as Reiss Nelson, it was probably the right one in terms of getting increased gametime.
It remains to be seen how good Iwobi will become on Merseyside but the former striking duo clearly hold him in great esteem.
