Arsenal legend Sol Campbell says Manuel Locatelli would be a great signing

Arsenal are still being linked with a move for Italian star Manuel Locatelli, and former defender Sol Campbell believes he’d be a ‘great’ signing.

Locatelli has lit up the Euros at times as part of an undefeated Italy team that will meet England in the final tomorrow.

Juventus are being tipped to sign the midfielder. However, reports yesterday also suggested Arsenal remain in the mix. The Gunners are said to be waiting on Juve’s next move, before making their own bid.

Arsenal are close to completing a deal to sign Albert Lokonga as well. But their spending might not stop, and former ‘Invincible’ Campbell believes Locatelli has all the tools for the Premier League.

“He’s a rangy player, he can pass, but he’s athletic and can get up and down with a good energy system about him,” Campbell said on Talksport.

“Locatelli is rangy, likes to get his tackles in. He can pass and score. He can definitely handle that side of the game in the Premier League (the physicality). So yeah, he’d be a great signing. But then others be after him, so.”

Perfect midfielder

As Campbell touches on in his comments, Locatelli is everything a modern midfielder needs to be. Eye for a pass, goals in the locker, and the ability to get up with play and back again.

He’s almost a throwback to the great midfielders of the 90s and 2000s. Very similar, in fact, to how Emanuel Petit would play with the Gunners.

Juventus are the favourites. But what a statement signing Manuel Locatelli would be for the Gunners.
