Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson expects Tottenham to make it to the final of this season’s Champions League, according to Sky Sports.

Spurs lost 4-3 against Manchester City last night but came through on aggregate via the away goals rule to set up with another side who have upset the odds to make the semis, Ajax.

And Merson said: “They have every chance of being in the final. Ajax are good but if Tottenham play to their best, they’ll have too much for Ajax.

“Tottenham have just beaten one of the best club teams in the world. We go mad over Man City and how good they are. But they’ve beaten them over two legs. Tottenham will be too strong. Defensively they’re very good and I think Tottenham will get to the final, I really do.”

The semi-final is going to be a tight encounter between two sides who find themselves going deeper into the competition than they perhaps expected when the season kicked off.

Tottenham cannot take Ajax lightly at all, having seen what they’ve done to Real Madrid and Juventus but must also acknowledge that they have an outstanding opportunity to make it into their first ever Champions League final.
