Arsenal legend and member of The Invincibles team, Lauren, has claimed new signing Martin Odegaard has everything needed to succeed in North London.

The Norwegian midfielder completed a move to Arsenal last week. The young attacking maestro has joined on loan until the end of the season in the hope of getting minutes under his belt.

Odegaard has found games hard to come by in Madrid. However, he did enjoy a fine spell with Real Sociedad last season. And Lauren, speaking to Goal, says he has watched enough of Odegaard to convince him he’ll be a success.

“Odegaard is a fantastic player. The fact he is coming to Arsenal and he is the type of player that Arteta likes, I’m sure he is going to give him those games to express himself and we will see a real talent because he is an absolutely brilliant player,” Lauren said.

“I was watching him when he was at Sociedad and he was just absolutely brilliant. He’s got everything, a player who can take the game from the opposition. He’s proven that in La Liga, which is not easy to do. He can get into the last third and score goals. He is a quality player who can see that final pass. An absolutely fantastic talent.”

Odegaard could come into the fold immediately this weekend when Arsenal host Manchester United. However, it remains to be seen where Mikel Arteta fits him into the system.

TBR View: Lauren knows a player when he sees one, Odegaard assessment a fair one

Who are we to question one of the most famous Arsenal squad players of all time? Lauren was an unsung hero of sorts in that invincibles team but in hindsight, he was brilliant.

His view on Odegaard here is encouraging for Arsenal fans. It’s great to hear from someone who has clearly observed the Norwegian up close.

Odegaard should be a success given the chance. And if he isn’t, then at least Arsenal haven’t splashed out huge sums.
