Arsenal reportedly leading race for 'flawless' attacking talent likened to Emile Smith Rowe

Arsenal have been linked with Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix in recent weeks.

According to Marca, the Gunners are leading the race for the Portugal international.

Meanwhile 90Min has reported that Felix has been offered to a number of clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta’s charges could well look to bolster their attacking ranks in the January transfer window.

Gabriel Jesus has been ruled out long-term, while a new winger was in Arsenal’s sights in the summer.

Felix would be a good shout for the Gunners, as he’s a talented player who could do with a change of scenery.

Diego Simeone doesn’t seem to be getting the best out of the 23-year-old at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Despite making seven straight starts at the beginning of the season, Felix hasn’t been in the starting XI since mid-September.

Not that this should put Arsenal off – many players haven’t done well at one club, only to go on to dazzle elsewhere.

Thierry Henry is one such example – struggled at Juventus, became a legend at Highbury.

‘Similar to the young Ronaldo”

Felix was one of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football ahead of his move to Atletico.

He has been compared to the likes of Kaka, Antoine Griezmann and Emile Smith Rowe.

Earlier this year, All Football App wrote a scouting report about Felix, where they compared him to Cristiano Ronaldo.

“His style of play is quite similar to the young Ronaldo,” they wrote. “He is very skilful, agile and has an excellent technique on the ball.

“He has an unreal vision when it comes to setting up goals for his fellow teammates.

“Capable of playing out wide, a No.10, a false 9, or as part of a front two, it won’t come as a huge surprise that the Portuguese’s biggest strengths are evident when he has the ball.

“His technique and vision are flawless and that allows him to either ease beyond opponents or take an entire defence out of the game with a single pass.”

Would Arsenal spend £100m plus on Felix?

One sticking point regarding a potential Arsenal move for Felix is that his reported price tag is high.

“Joao Felix has chances to leave Atletico in 2023, for sure,” Fabrizio Romano recently wrote on his Substack column with Caught Offside, via Football Espana.

Asking price will be more than €100m, around €120m – then will depend on the proposals.”

Likewise, 90Min reported that Felix’s price tag is where Arsenal – and Chelsea – could struggle.

Despite both clubs being offered Felix’s services, it’s claimed neither club would be willing to pay the £100m or so Atletico want.
