Arsenal Invincible Lauren delivers verdict on Mesut Ozil situation
Former Arsenal defender Lauren believes Mesut Ozil only has himself to blame for his current situation at the club.
The German playmaker is facing never playing for the Gunners again after recently being left out the club’s Europa League and Premier League squads.
The 32-year-old released a statement over the decision questioning Arsenal’s loyalty, and it’s clearly a messy situation.
Since not making the 25-man Premier League squad, Ozil has taken to Twitter to voice his support for the first-team ahead of matches, even making predictions about the scoreline and the scorers.
His cheerleading via social media is a bit of a sorry sight, but in the eyes of Lauren – who was part of Arsenal’s Invincibles side – the player only has himself to blame for being ostracised.
He told Sky Sports: “First of all, it’s the fault of the player. I believe if you have the quality, if you are a top player, if you are not involved week in, week out I believe that is your own fault.
“Obviously all of the club have to try to do their best in order to make the player happy and be in the squad and be in the team and play every weekend.
“But the fact that with Emery and now with Arteta he hasn’t been consistent it is not the manager. I believe it is more the player than the manager or the club.”
TBR’s View – Lauren has a point
Of course, nobody really knows why the situation has transpired the way it has, but from the outside looking in, the fact there has been issues with both Emery and Arteta is perhaps telling.
Ozil, realistically, should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Instead he finds himself in the wilderness and it’s very hard not to question things like, work rate and attitude given what everyone knows he can contribute in terms of creativity.
