Arsenal fought back to secure three points against Leicester City on Saturday – but there was a stain on the victory as Riccardo Calafiori went down injured.
The Italy international – a £42m summer arrival from Bologna – has quickly become an important player for Mikel Arteta in north London, netting a remarkable goal in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City to announce himself to the Gunners.
Calafiori was even praised by Pep Guardiola after that Premier League clash, so the Arsenal No.33 is clearly doing something right.
So, what is the latest on Riccardo Calafiori after he went down injured against Leicester City? Let’s take a look…
Panic over for Arsenal as Riccardo Calafiori scan shows no major injury
An update from Arsenal insider Team News and Tix on Patreon has now revealed that the 22-year-old did not suffer a major injury against the Foxes.
It is said that Arsenal were fearful the man from Rome had picked up a serious issue on Saturday, although these concerns are now over after scans showed no significant damage.

Calafiori, who Gabriel Martinelli called a “superstar” after Saturday’s 4-2 win, was seen to have landed awkwardly after winning a header in the 101st minute, while he also seemed to be in some discomfort when celebrating Leandro Trossard’s 94th minute strike.
Nevertheless, the Italian was able to finish the game – his sixth appearance for Arsenal – and has fortunately escaped a major setback.
Mikel Arteta and Arsenal fans had reason to worry about Calafiori
Concerns over Calafiori were more than justified, as he suffered a gruesome knee injury in 2018 which left him sidelined for an entire year at Roma, and saw him miss 75 games.
The versatile defender then endured plenty of niggles in the aftermath of that serious injury – as you can see below – so Arsenal fans were presumably anxious that the £42m man had suffered yet another setback.
Fortunately, Calafiori has escaped another injury, although you can be sure that Arteta will be keen to manage the defender’s minutes this season, in case he does eventually suffer another major issue.
