Eric Bailly’s difficulties at Manchester United have been well documented in recent weeks. The Ivorian international has struggled for form at Old Trafford and in recent weeks he has been linked with an exit.
Two teams said to be keen on the £30 million player are believed to be Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, according to The Sun. For Tottenham, it could be a shrewd move. Spurs have long-term concerns over the future of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. Bailly is also known to Mauricio Pochettino, who briefly managed him during his time at Espanyol.
However, events at Arsenal in recent weeks might have Tottenham on the losing end of any potential transfer scramble.
Arsenal have been struck by injury trouble at the back. Rob Holding is out for the season with a knee injury and Shkodran Mustafi now has a hamstring problem which Arsenal are assessing.
It could force the Gunners into January moves at the back where they would perhaps have waited until the summer were circumstances different.
Tottenham might, therefore, be beaten to the punch if Bailly really is a target they are considering.
Whether that is a good or bad thing, is down to a fan’s opinion.
