Report: Arsenal could hand teenage quartet first-team chance at Nottingham Forest
Arsenal are taking on Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup today and they could be set to hand a number of under-23 players the chance to shine at the City Ground.
The Gunners are looking to get their FA Cup campaign underway with a win at Forest. It’s a tricky tie on paper for Mikel Arteta’s side, with the Reds undergoing a resurgence of sorts under Steve Cooper. However, according to Football.London, Arsenal will use the game as a chance to give some of its younger players a chance.
FL claims that the teenage quartet of Charlie Patino, Mika Biereth, Omari Hutchinson, and Salah Oulad M’Hand have all travelled with the Arsenal squad for the game. All four have impressed at under-23 level this term and could well get minutes if the game is going well in Nottingham.
There are also rumblings that suggest Patino could even be in line for a start. However, nothing has been confirmed on that front and Mikel Arteta refused to be drawn on if the talented midfielder would indeed be included from the off.
TBR’s View: Arsenal Will Hope For Easy Day At The Office
Obviously, Mikel Arteta must feel these young players are good enough to play. He wouldn’t include them otherwise.
However, he’ll also be hoping the XI he puts out does the business early on. That will allow Arsenal to manage the game and as it ticks on, will let Arteta introduce his youngsters. But if Forest do make a fist of it, and there’s a big chance they will, then it might not be the game for the likes of Hutchinson or Salah to appear.
Biereth’s inclusion is an interesting one. The young Dane has been making waves in the youth setup since arriving in the summer. And with Arsenal’s strikers all at varying stages of their career, he’ll be hoping to make an impression if he gets the nod.
